Quilt Mountain was a collaborative participatory exhibition of textiles, performances and workshops presented by artists: Kate Garman, Rose Beerhorst, Sally England, Marlee Grace Hanson, and Eliza Fernand. The public came to watch a performance, learn a new skill, and experience a fresh perspective on fiber arts at Have Company (136 Division Avenue South) September 24th through October 12th.
An immersive installation and performance space, the exhibition explored the traditions of quilting, macrame, and needlework. Workshops included; Scrap Yarn with Rose Beerhorst, Knitting 101 with Marlee Grace, Improvisational Patchwork with Eliza Fernand, Macrame with Sally England, Hand Stitching 101 with Kate Garman and Seasonal Natural Dyeing with Rachel de Cuba (Have Company's Artist in Resident). Performances included; Eliza Fernand's Quilt Stories, Rose Beerhorst's Rug Making, Marlee Grace and Sam Snedeker's Flowering Part 1 & 2, and a Macrame Demo with Sally England. A Quilting Bee was also hosted each week and the public was invited to bring along their current project. One of the windows housed a Quilt Library, made up of the artists' personal books as well as heirloom quilts. Most of the displayed quilts were for sale during the exhibition and the middle table of the store contained merchandise made by the five women.
